Advance Auto - Create Inventory Records?

Postby uhaulkid on Sat Jul 24, 2010 7:14 am

We just set up advance auto parts online. When I was in one of the screens, I saw a button saying add all parts to inventory when ordering; something to that effect. I have looked high and low to click that button and cant find it. I know it's right in front of me, if someone would please tell me where it is so I can set it up to do that. Please and thank you.....

This should be the same as all other catalogs in regards to the Receive PO parts options.

There are two checkboxes during the Receive All phase:
1. Receive parts to ROs wherever possible
2. Create an inventory record for any part that doesn't already have one

If the PO was generated from an existing order (most likely), then the committed parts are going there. They are still in inventory until Conver to Invoice phase when they are CONFIRMED and relieved from inventory.

Okay so theres no way to put certain ones into inventory then? Why I'm asking is I want them to get used to doing this for common parts used; that way they can weekly print and look at whats selling and whats not and what to stock and what to not stock. They are new at this and the salemen all stock FAST moving numbers from the town up the road but those numbers dont fly here. I'm just trying to help them get on right track. the first things was getting them on this program. Thanks Tim.

Okay not it's a bit clearer; here are some options.

Once a part is on the Order screen you may double-click it to open the Part Item Edit window. If you check the Inventory checkbox, it will confirm that you want to create an inventory record. That's how you enter only certain parts to Inventory. Then it will appear on the inventory reports.

But if all you really need to do is track sales, go to Reports, select the Management tab and look for Part Sales By Vendor. This will include part sales whether the part has an inventory record or not.

when i want to revamp my inventory i call my part suppliers and ask for a read out on stocked parts as well as multiple purchases of non stock items. as a rule my shop is the "anti" shop of what the suppliers consider common parts. i've found that they have a formula that's a nationwide average of sales and use this to stock shops. it just doesn't fit my shop. i pay close attention to my commercial accounts. i service a fleet of tilt masters, super duty's, power strokes, cummins, etc. the part store just doesn't stock "consumable items" for these. this is my job. i can't rely on them. i can't even begin to talk about how many times i've purchased bulk programs and have had a majority of the parts collect dust. the reply from the sales person is always the same. "i can't understand it, i stocked the biggest sellers." in all my years in business i've learned a few things. stocking is one of them. i rotate my stock out four times a year. i'm lucky in some aspects, there is a part store across the street from me. it's a double edge sword. i'll get comfortable and get blind sided on occasion assuming that they have the parts i need. i'm finding that part stores are cutting back on inventory. years ago the local part stores stocked by location. not any more. i've had many issues where i'm servicing trailers and needed 8 bearings and 4 seals. they only have 2 bearings and 1 seal. makes no sense to me but i've been stung by this. i now stock the most common sets of bearings and seals, trailer batteries, body alarms, switches, rolls of wire, brake batteries and controls. not huge sellers but when i need them i need them. i sock the odd parts that i usually have to wait for or order. the common ones i let the part store carry. the store will on occasion send people over to me to purchase parts. if it's pricing i've found that i can get the same price on a filter if i bulk buy or not. my main stocking purpose is time not price. price is important but waiting for a filter for a tilt master because you purchased the only one that the part store carries earlier is what i strive to avoid. i'm paying my techs good money and one of them getting jammed up waiting for a filter just isn't acceptable.
no, you really don't want to know what i'm thinking................
