Circles Next To Discussion Titles

Circles Next To Discussion Titles

Postby christi » Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:01 am

Hello,
I know that sometimes things bother me & just keep bothering me until I resolve it. Why do some of the circles to the left of the forum categories have stars in them? Why do some of the circles have lines that are scrolling? I did try searching for the answer with no success. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Have a good day,
Christi

It's all new and we're discovering things every day.

I believe the star indicates that YOU have posts within that discussion. Can you point me to examples of what you referred to as wavy?

the star is if you have made a post in that title and the scrolling is if someone is reading that post at that time (at least that is how it is in other forums i read). jerry

Red lined one mean new posts that you have yet to read.
Dark line means you've already been there.
Scrolling line mean "hot" topic. Who know what define "hot"
Star means you have a post init.
Paper clip means it has an attachment.

Nick work folks!

Hot topic is # of messages; this is set at 40 I believe. Popular threads will have this when they grow to 40 posts and beyond....

You guys are close on the "hot topic". The scrolling in the circle shows there is more than one page of posts in that thread.

What I don't get is the "updating" of read posts. Sometimes the circle will change colors to reflect all posts were read and sometimes they stay "red". The only way I can force all to update is to use the "mark forum read" function.

You have to open each unread post to make the discussion area red designation go away.

Something I do 4500 times a day. :!:

Hello,
Well thanks for all the replies. I do know that if they are red, it means I havent read it. Once read, it will turn black. I also noticed if it is red & there are two pages, if you dont click on the 2nd page, it will remain red. HaHa, took me a couple of times to figure that one out though!! I guess I wasnt the only one that was curious :D

Hello,
Its me again  . Just a thought, if/when someone puts in the 'GETTING STARTED' forum explaining what 'ANSWERS', 'STICKY', 'FAQ' , ETC means maybe they could put explanations of what the different icons mean, ie the circles & what the different ones are. Hopefully, in the 'GETTING STARTED' forum as well. Generally, I go into 'VIEW YOUR POSTS' to see if answers were given to my posts. Now I know all I have to do is look for the STAR

Ok so tomorrow we all log on and pick this topic....say at 11:00 california time. If we ALL hit it at the same time, will the circle have flames????/

I like flames.

Not true, we have topics with 2 or 3 pages that are NOT scrolling

Have you read all the pages beforehand? If you've read page 1 and 2, maybe it won't scroll just if 3 is unread? It's how it appears to work from my end.

looks like a star goes to a topic with 50+ replies :(, well maybe not. this one has a star now! maybe its views? or views in 1 day, or different responders.

how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?

Thanks, this 3.0 platform has many cool features, functions and appearance that we didn't have in 2.x versions. There will be some further changes in the next few weeks to better organinze PerformanceCenter factors and improve access flow but the forum controls and layout will remain much the same....
