6.5 SE Updated & Now Dings?

6.5 SE Updated & Now Dings?

Postby rhillig » Fri Aug 01, 2014 10:23 am

We have updated our Mitchell to 6.5 & now when opening a screen or entering info the computer makes a "ding" noise. Is there a way to turn this off? It's almost like you are doing something in error, but happens during the normal course of working in the program.

Check your Windows Sounds. Something may have changed there. In Windows 8, right click on the desktop and click Personalize. Click on Sounds, then scroll through the Windows Sounds in the lower window. See if there is a little speaker next to Open Program or anywhere else you may not want.

I did check for the sounds, and there is no speaker next to open programs.

Nothing changed except we updated the program. Was just wondering if there was something that changed with the program. I have music playing on my pc or I would just turn the volume off.

My 6.4.608 does it too, say I enter cust info down to the phone number, then click phone list, the program will ding at me. If I don't click the phone list button it dings when I change from the cust tab to the vehicle tab..... Does it a few other places too, this is just the first one to come to mind.
Working hard to prove the Green Team can do it with the best of 'em.

I have never experienced this. Just added a customer, clicked Phone list, added a vehicle went back to Customer screen. Nothing.

This is system dependent, I'll have to research.

Tim, I think it's Windows 8 dependent. I have three Windows 8 computer & one Windows 7....The 7 doesn't ding - the 8's do!

Possibly; however my Windows 8.1 laptop never dings either. Personalization?

My box is running (kind of a fast crawl) Window 7 Pro. My system is ding free.

Do you have any of the dialog boxes appearing on program launch? For example, the one that asks you to review your shop settings, or the prompt to backup the database?

I have not had any dialog boxes appearing. It is the noise the program makes when you do enter or try & do something that you shouldn't. I have even minimized the program to see if any dialog boxes had popped up under the program.

Might be worth a quick visit to you control panel > Sounds. If you're still 8.0, from the desktop you can press the Windows key + X to get a menu in the lower left corner. Select Control Panel there. Then go to Sounds (or Hardware and Sound in category view) then go to change System Sounds, or to the Sounds tab of the Sound window. Try setting to the default Windows sound scheme.

All the systems have the sounds set to windows default.

I did just use the one system & noticed that it does it after you have had a parts ordering dialog window open. In this case it was Auto Value.

OK - something else weird I noticed this morning - it is popping up AFTER we close the program for the day.

Are you using the ACL catalog on that machine?

ACL is installed on the host - but not on any of the workstations - evidently we are not using that supplier anymore - should I deactivate it from the host machine & see if that makes a difference?
