I take title with me on long trips. Never know. Repair far far away (depending on what it is) or tow to dealer as a trade in.

thumb screws on plates 5 cents, self addressed stamped bubble folder to mail the plates home in $2.00, vin tags removed 2 cents, 5 gallons of gas $13.00, bic lighter 99 cents, the feeling you get knowing that that piece of junk will never bother you again, priceless...........................
i just made this up. i would never, never recommend or have done something like this.
